The building of Visveiling Urk is based on a carefully considered logistical process for handling fish throughout the entire auction process. Because of this approach it's possible to quickly prepare large quantities of fish for sale. Refrigerated trucks unload their cargo via the dock shelters on the west side of the building, the fish is then placed in the refrigerated sorting hall. The boxes of fish are subsequently graded by species and size.<\/p>\n

Grading can be done by hand in an artisanal manner, but it can also be automated.<\/em><\/strong> The graders finish processing the batches, after which the forklift picks the bacth up and, after weighing, places it in one of the cold rooms. During auction days, these rooms serve as viewing areas for the buyers.<\/p>\n

When the fish is sold, it leaves the building through the eastern exit of the coldcells to the dockshelters to be loaded on the refrigerated trucks. There is a seperate loading area with lifting platforms especially for smaller transporters, ensuring rapid dispatch of the fish.<\/p>\n
