Fish grading

Het complex van de Visafslag Urk bv is gebaseerd op een weldoordachte logistiek verwerking van de vis in het totale veilproces. Door deze logistiek is het mogelijk om grote hoeveelheden vis in hoge snelheid gereed te maken voor de verkoop. Koelwagens lossen hun vracht via de dockshelters aan de westzijde van het complex en worden in de gekoelde sorteerhal neergezet.  De kisten vis worden vervolgens op soort en maat gesorteerd.

Grading can be done by hand in an artisanal manner, but it can also be automated. The graders finish processing the batches, after which the forklift picks the bacth up and, after weighing, places it in one of the cold rooms. During auction days, these rooms serve as viewing areas for the buyers.

When the fish is sold, it leaves the building through the eastern exit of the coldcells to the dockshelters to be loaded on the refrigerated trucks. There is a seperate loading area with lifting platforms especially for smaller transporters, ensuring rapid dispatch of the fish.
